Over dinner one night in 2009, I was swapping old stories with my daughter and son-in-law; memories from my long career at New York Life. I didn’t think much of them at the time, but their reaction surprised me. “Dad,” my daughter said, “you have to write these down—for us, for the family.”

That simple comment stuck with me. It made me reflect—not just on the stories themselves, but on the common thread running through them: how God had been moving in my life all along, often in ways I didn’t recognize until much later.

After retiring from a high-powered, all-consuming career, I finally had time to reflect more deeply. What I discovered was both humbling and eye-opening. Story after story, whether personal, professional, or spiritual, revealed a God who was not distant—but deeply involved.

Through unexpected encounters, challenges, and even failures, I saw that divine grace had been quietly shaping my path.

And so, I began writing. Not just for my family, but for anyone who’s ever wondered, “Where is God in all of this?”

That’s how Encounters with God was born—a weekly series of true stories (some my own, some from others I’ve met along the way) about moments when God’s presence broke through the noise of everyday life. My hope is that they’ll encourage you to look back on your own journey—and perhaps recognize divine fingerprints where you hadn’t seen them before.
